Just heard some possibly exciting little news (well exciting to me!)
SPRING AWAKENING (the musical) will apparently be opening in Australia at the end of the year/early next year!!!!!!!
Hell to the yes!
Heard it from a pretty reliable source too, so fingers crossed it is true. I think if marketed correctly, SA has the potential to do really well out here.

| Tony Awards Part Deux |
[09 Jun 2009|04:36pm] |
10. Wow, John Stamos = still hot. Uncle Jesse hasn't aged. 11. Awww Jen Damiano took Jonathan B. Wright as her date! Nawwwwww. Spring Awakening hook-ups, yay! 12. Yay, Karen Olivo. I love that theatre people are so much more emotional when accepting awards haha 13. Next to Normal - I haven't heard almost any of the music from this show, but it seems pretty good/intense. Less 'showy' than some of the other performances (which I must admit, I'm a sucker for the full-on, sequins-and-tap-dancing, balls-out number) 14. Oh Aaron Tveit! He has a very nice jawline and chin. Oh and can sing well too. 15. Jessica Lange looks to have aged very well. And I love that she put her glasses on to read the teleprompter :D 16. I do feel bad that the smaller awards don't get to be completely aired, with the winner's speech just getting a sentence or two of screen time. 17. Marcia Gay Harden looks fantastic 18. Edie Falco sitting behind James Gandolfini!!!!!!! And they exchanged a little laugh 19. I didn't realise that the Tony's also used the shoo-music to get award winners off stage. You'd think theatre people would be a little more understanding 20. Billy Elliot was great. Certainly seems to be cleaning up the awards so far. Making me wish I'd gotten off my butt and got to the Mlebourne season earlier as it's closing very very soon
21. Ahh Harvey Finerstein's speaking voice hurts my ears. Guh 22. Yay for Jerry Herman getting the Lifetime Achievement award 23. OMG HAIR!!!! FINALLY!!! 23A. MMMM GAVIN CREEL 23B. STEAMING, FLAXEN, WAXEN 23C. I WANT TO JOIN THE CAST OF HAIR. KTHANX 23D. WILL SWENSON GIVING AN AUDIENCE MEMBER A CARWASH (if you haven't ever seen Hedwig and the Angry Inch, a carwash involves standing over someone who is sitting, and kind of thrusting in their face/over their head) 23E. Orignally I was thinking Jon Groff > Gavin Creel but my mind is 85% changed 23F. LEAPFROG 23G. I love shows that involve aisle-dancing 24. OK, ITS OFFICIALLY. 100% BARRACKING FOR HAIR FTW 25. Cheno! I don't care what anyone else says, I love her. 26. Best Revival ...... HAIR! I literally screamed a little 27. I love that everyone involved just flooded the stage - as in 35+ people 28. Lead Actress - Alice Ripley. She yelled when she accepted her Tony. Good for her. 29. Awww boys from Billy Elliot all winning. So cute in their little suits! So cute and awkward 30. Gavin Creel, I unfortunately realised, not-so-hot without the wig
31. Jersey Boys. Good, but still not enough it in for me to justify $100 for a ticket in Melbourne. I think I'd rather go see Chicago with Caroline O'Connor instead. 32. Best Musical - Billy Elliot. Ok, now I feel really dumb for not going to our production. Had a feeling it might win from reading the pre-Tony buzz. Haha, all the kids on the stage were pretty much peeing themselves with excitement. 33. Yay for NPH closing the show with a song! Fantastic!
OK, so this post probably wasn't of any amusement to anyone but myself haha.

| The Oscars of Broadway |
[09 Jun 2009|10:39am] |
So I'm currently watching the Tonys (having taped them yesterday and so far successfully avoided any spoilers). I'm totally team HAIR by the way, but am also partial to 9 to 5 and West Side Story
1. Neil Patrick Harris makes a LEGENDARY host 2. Great opening, even though my tape missed the first minute or so :( 3. I can't believe Rock of Ages is actually a Broadway show! 4. Haha, the Shrek number actually made me somewhat want to see it. OMG, the Lord Farquad costume cracked me up. And haha Wicked reference 5. Lin Manuel Miranda! 6. West Side Story looks amazing! The dancing is just .... wow 7. Rock of Ages again. WHAT THE? No Constantine Maroulis. No thank you. Seriously, does this show have a narrative or is it more of a jukebox musical? 8. OMG, I TAKE SOME OF THAT BACK. THEY BROKE OUT JOURNEY!!!!!!! 9. And Rock of Ages has some very tight pants
Damn, I have to go to work. Will finish watching and giving my thoughts when I get home :D

| Writer's Block: Place of Residence |
[03 Jun 2009|07:26pm] |
In a cute little weatherboard cottage. Fresh, white walls and either polished floorboards or slate colored plush carpet. The enterance will have a framed poster for Billy Wilder's 'The Apartment' on the wall. Walking along the hallway are a series of photos in white frames - from great holidays, my family and friends.
Kitchen will be white with a nice big counter-top, cupboards full of matching Tupperware, huge oven and a dark grey granite bench with turquoise bar stools. Vintage Coca-Cola advertisements on the walls.
Three bedrooms and a study, which I can turn into more of a library with a whole wall of Ikea bookshelves. All my books will be organised by category.
A lounge/living room which also functions as a home cinema with a big couch and two club chairs. Posters from 'Faster Pussycat, Kill Kill', 'Female Trouble', and 'Beyond the Valley of the Dolls' are on the walls. I have another Ikea bookshelf full of movies, again all organised alphabetically and by genre.
One main bathroom and an ensuite. Each with modern fittings (that my brother better install for the cost of a slab of beer). I also would like a seperate laundry. White, with a dark-grey bench.
The garden would consist of an covered deck. White woodwork and fairy-lights wrapped around the eaves. Table and chairs for entertaining. A bit of greenery and probably a hammock.
By the way, the location of the house is very important. It will either be in Montmorency or Ivanhoe please. (For non Victorians) they are both in the North Eastern suburbs. Both where my parents grew up. Lots of nice little cafes, bakeries and other small businesses. Both very community focused and have a small-town feel, but with the city only a train ride away.
Wow. Can you tell I actually spend quite a bit of time planning my future house? The thought of having a whole place to myself to decorate excites me a ridiculous amount

Something like eight people from the same cruise all have swine flu. Health Department was supposed to call today about the results, but didn't.
My brother is still fine (actually he's pissed off because he has to stay at home in quarantine til he finds out and can't go to work) and except for her bronchitis, his girlfriend is fine too.
Today was annoying. Basically just at home, waiting for a phone call all day. Argh.
Tomorrow I start my new job. Fingers crossed it all goes ok. I always get really paranoid/freaked out before I start new things that somehow I'm going to not be told how to do things properly or that I'll be expected to know all this stuff. Even though deep down I know I'm being stupid, I still get this awful feeling for the first few days anyway.
Anyway, here's hoping the new job goes ok (it's only for six to eight weeks anyway) and that no one in my family has swine flu!

| Glee! |
[26 May 2009|11:01pm] |
I forgot to write earlier, but I watched the Glee pilot online last week! OMG, it was pretty awesome and I think they have successfully created a show with musical numbers (way less cheesy / forced than Britannia High I have to say)
Here's some awesomeness for those who haven't seen it. Haha Journey. You know this show is going to rule.

| Writer's Block: Close Call |
[21 May 2009|10:05pm] |
I haven't been involved in any serious accidents *touch wood* and most close calls have been due to my own stupidity. Like at work. I was trying to tidy the shelves in our stockroom and because I'm a short arse, I couldn't reach high enough to push some boxes properly onto one of the shelves. Instead of getting a ladder (like a normal person), I stood on a swivel desk chair and then onto a sink area. It was fine until I pushed too hard and fell forward, hitting the sink on the way down and then having the swivel chair shooting out from under me.
I wasn't badly hurt, but I made enough noise that one of my co-workers was at the doorway going 'Steph ... are you still alive'. My arms were nice and scratched for about a week. It was my own fault though obviously, as I'm a dumb arse and wasn't about to turn around and sue the company (like some morons are apparently doing right now ... lame)

I made a 43 Things account the other week and wanted to post it here too.
I often make little to-do lists and pages of goals I would one day like to achieve, and so I'm hoping by organising and listing them somewhere, it will help me to try and keep track and achieve them.
If anyone else has a 43 Things account, show me in the comments! I'd love to cheer others on and add some more things to my list :)

I am hear only to write that I just finished watching The Departed about four minutes ago.

I wish I could go back and have watched it much, much earlier, because wow. My mind is blown.
That is all.

| Writer's Block: Word for Word |
[14 May 2009|06:37pm] |
Strangely, I know a looooot of songs from musicals word-for-word. Pretty much anything from Cats, Hair, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Spring Awakening, Rent, and Grease. Oh, and anything from any Disney animation made between 1989 to 1999.
Most 'normal' music though (Top 40/whatever is on the radio) never sticks in my head after the chorus. Yes, I'm one of those dags who, if any modern songs comes on, is like 'What is this?'.

| Writer's Block: How'd You Get Here? |
[04 May 2009|08:54pm] |
Through some cool kids down on Musicals.net back in the day. A lot of people on the forums had LJs and someone was nice enough to give me a code for one (this was when LJ was invite-only and all exclusive haha, no Russian friending bots or other random weirdness).

[29 Apr 2009|09:37pm] |
Once upon a time it was ONTD, but it is now and by far ONTD_TWATLIGHT!
Srsly, twats are the funniest, nicest, amazing and loveliest people I have come across in a community. Even though I'm now meh about Twilight (but not really, my ears still kind of prick up when I hear people talking about it, even if it is just for me to lol about later), it is an awesome community and I feel honoured to be apart of it haha (closed membership now, so it makes me feel speeshul snowflake)

[24 Apr 2009|07:12pm] |
Pretty sure I've known demetakat the longest, back from Musicals.net and egroups, and back when I had a different LJ name. 2nd longest I believe to be the lovely violettree, who I met in a Yahoo RPG (going back quite a bit there lol).
Still, the biggest kudos to LJ be for introducing me to one of my favourite people IRL - kidness!!!! She made going to uni more bearable and lots of fun and is an amazing person, just saying :D

| Writer's Block: Gamer's Choice |
[13 Apr 2009|05:38pm] |
I downloaded Alex the Kidd in Miracle World just the other week. We used to play it for hours on my neighbour's Sega, back in the day haha. I also loved Kirby on gameboy, Mario Kart on Nintendo and Resident Evil when we got a 2nd hand playstation.
The most-played game though, by far, growing up was Tekken 3. I still sort-of love fighting games and I'm pretty sure it comes from Tekken. I spent hours unlocking all the characters and learning all the special combos. Plus, in what other game can you be a tree and fight a giant panda? Or a Japanese schoolgirl versus a half-man, half cheeta?? C'mon!

| Writer's Block: Get Real |
[10 Apr 2009|05:42pm] |
Hands down, it would be The Amazing Race. I love that show so much and have actually thought quite seriously about what my strategy would be, if I were to ever go on it (which unfortunately will never happen).
I would need a kick-arse partner who could do the following: - not be squeamish - not be scared of heights - be reasonably athletic - drive a manual car - good navigational skills, can read a map - Spanish language skills would be a plus
Where as I would like to think I could bring the following to the table - Good customer service skills (never under-estimate these! How often do you need someone to do you a favour/get you on a better flight/help you out with finding something?) - Language skillz - French, some Italian - Not scared of heights - I would ace any challenges to do with memory or making stuff - Experienced traveller
So combined, we would have a pretty awesome team. We would play nice and help other nice teams out if needed. We would probably play dumb a little bit (don't want to be seen as a threat and get yielded) and ultimately walk away with the prize.
And I would totally be macking on Phil Keogh at the end of each leg. Just sayin'
